Rye-D-Boat Club (RDB) was formed in 2002, as the first and currently, the only Dragon Boat Club to represent Ryerson University at regional dragon boat festivals in the Ontario. Our dragon boat club welcomes Ryerson University students and alumni in partaking in this competitive and exciting traditional sport. In fact, the professionalism and dedication of our mature paddlers can be credited for making our club one of the most competitive university dragon boat crews in the Eastern Canada region.
The club has maintained a tradition of translating hard work into good results, with a long history of hurdles and triumphs. Most recently, one of three RDB crews placed in 2nd out of 19 universities in the University Cup and 10th out of 108 crews at the Toronto International Dragon Boat Festival (TIDBF). Both achievements were a new personal best for RDB, but won’t be the last as the returning crew members for 2010 will take this valuable experience for excelling in future regattas.
RDB believes that races are won during training rather than the racing line, and dedication to a logical training plan translates into positive improvements physically AND mentally. Even when we’re feeling the aches and pains, or it when it takes more than a hour through the snow to get to practice, we turn up for training and encourage each other anyways. It’s really narrows down to team effort, as we push each other out of our comfort zones to grow into stronger individuals. Training at RDB will never be easy; we know the goal, have the coaching expertise and are looking for people who can commit the hard undertaking to get there together.
Competing and excelling in competitiveness is only one of the club’s goals. RDB provides opportunities for members to hone their skills in various other aspects of sport including fitness training, coaching, administrating and fundraising. We also have scope for social paddlers who come to us to meet new people or make a healthy change to their lives.
So we’re not looking for natural athletes, just ordinary people who don’t waver from a goal. Does this sound like you?
