The World Doctors Orchestra (WDO) combines the pleasure of great music with charity. Two to three times a year, a selection of 900 physicians from 50 nations exchange their white coats for evening attire and perform a benefit concert for people in need of healthcare. The proceeds from each concert go to selected non-profit medical aid organizations.
The founder and conductor of the WDO is Stefan Willich, professor of medicine and former president of the Berlin Academy of Music Hanns Eisler. Following successful appearances in Berlin, Cleveland, Taipei, Yerevan, Washington, Beijing, Shanghai, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Essen, Vienna, Bonn, Iwaki-city, Tokyo, Valparaíso, and Santiago de Chile the orchestra will return to the Konzerthaus Berlin in April 2015. The proceeds of this charity concert will be donated to STIFTUNG MICHAEL – a foundation for epilepsy and to Dentists for Africa e.V.
