Just a two hour drive from Geraldton in Western Australia, Gabyon Station offers you a unique chance to experience a working sheep station, on horseback. Step out of the bustle of city life and immerse yourself in the expansive and beautiful landscape of the outback and become part of the real, authentically Australian country life....Soak in the peace and tranquility!
Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrive at Gabyon around 1pm via your own transport (all directions provided prior to your departure). Settle into one of the rustic shearers quarters where you will spend the first night. Once everyone has arrived and all are settled with rooms, we will introduce you to your horses. This will give us a chance to make sure all horses and riders are happy and to have a short ride to get to know each other.
Day 2 – Enjoy Breakfast, then bags are packed and we're off to Courin Hill for lunch and to climb the rock if you are feeling fit! Courin Hill is one of the landmarks that stands out on Gabyon in such a flat landscape. This is also where we will have lunch. After lunch we will head off towards an old historic set of brush sheep yards. We then ride through a paddock called Chain Pump towards a beautiful breakaway outcrop where we will set up camp for the night. ( 24km )
Day 3 – Breakfast and pack up camp. We then ride through some more scenic breakaway country which then turns into mulga shrublands. We will pass a large clay pan which can support a variety of birds when weather permits. Here we will stop for lunch and water the horses. Then following a river bed we come to Gravity mill. From here we cross the state vermin proof fence and head for Warbadoo Hill where we will camp for the night. This is a easy hill to climb and will offer great sunset photo opportunities! ( 27km )
Day 4 - Pack up camp, then today we ride through some open saltbush flats and along the Casurina Creek. Lunch today we will carry with us so we will stop wherever we choose. We then continue up in to some more beautiful breakaway country and another night under the stars! ( 22km )
Day 5 – Today we will be riding through some rocky outcrops and following the Wattamulga Creek. You're bound to see abundant wildlife along this stretch, including kangaroos, emus, bush turkeys, bungarras and possibly a few cows/sheep. ( 28km)
Day 6 – Our final day in the saddle will be a full day ride back to the homestead. With a late arrival expected, all riders will spend the night back at the Station and a evening meal will be provided. (32km)
Day 7 - It's time to say goodbye to new found friends and head for home, or for some .....travel onto your next destination.
