Party: Northern Rivers Big Band

The Northern Rivers Big Band is appearing in concert at Yamba Bowling Club on Sunday 12th of July. The concert starts at 2pm.

Right from the start of the concert with the Star Wars Theme, the first half has some high energy tunes chosen by band leader Royden Ainsworth, the best of Duke Ellington, It Don't Mean a Thing, Count Basie's, Doin' the Basie Thing and some exciting tunes arranged by one of the world's best, Gordon Goodwin called Hey Mambo and The Jazz Police. Some funk in big band mode is performed in stirring classic funk style called The Chicken.

Paul Worsnop joins us to introduce all the numbers and to give a little bit of background the tunes.

Our wonderful vocalist Laura Nobel will perform many favourite songs including the sublime Skylark and Georgia on My Mind by Hoagy Charmichael, and Do You Know What it means to Miss New Orleans.

Vocalist Kristian Keogh performs great standards like A Foggy Day and Call Me Irresponsible and some more modern tunes including Eye of the Tiger and Can't Buy Me Love.

The traditional New Orleans jazz set is always a vigorous bracket of fun and improvisation. I always look forward to the foot-tapping fun of tunes like March of the Bobcats. Many more famous tunes and instrumentals are included and of course, we always feature our Glenn Miller bracket, this time with the tunes American Patrol, Little Brown Jug and In the Mood.

Laura will perform some great tunes like What a Difference a Day Made, Route 66 and Caravan. After Satin Doll, Royden will give the clarinet a workout on Woody Herman's Golden Wedding, and then the concert winds up with a hot instrumental from Count Basie, One O'clock Jump.

The Northern Rivers Big Band is a great big band, full of good energy, with the emphasis on perfecting these wonderful arrangements/tunes for your enjoyment and ours.

We look forward to your company on Sunday the 12th of July, appreciate your continued support of the Northern Rivers Big Band, and encourage you to tell all your friends and family.

Kind regards, Bruce Worrall
