Lorsqu’un pianiste de jazz et un percussionniste afro-péruvien croisent la route d’Irem Bekter, on peut affirmer que c’est une nouvelle voix de musiques métissée qui se fait entendre.

Originaire de Turquie, d’Angleterre, et d’Argentine, l’artiste multidisciplinaire Irem Bekter s’installe au Québec en 2007. Elle fonde l’Irem Bekter Quintet et réalise une tournée de plus de 35 concerts. Boursière du CALQ, elle perfectionne les musiques turques auprès d’Ismail Fencioğlu et les percussions avec Ziya Tabassian.

Ce nouveau projet est une ode à la vie des musiques sud américaines et turques, où se côtoient des œuvres du répertoire et des pièces originales.

When the jazz pianist David Ryshpan and the afro-peruvian percussionist Kullak Viger-Rojas crossed Irem Bekter's path, one thing was certain - a new sound was about to emerge.

Irem is an eclectic mix of musical influences and traditions. Born in Istanbul, her multidisciplinary talent was nurtured in the UK before an extensive period in Argentina developing her own take on South American music. In Quebec since 2007, she founded the Irem Bekter Quintet, presenting over 35 concerts. With a scholarship from CALQ, Irem further explored the musical heritage of her native Turkey with such outstanding musicians as Ismail Fenicioglu and Ziya Tabassian.

This new project is a celebration of South American an Turkish music set in a jazz context, combining works from the repertoire with original pieces.
